What does a Roblox user ID tell you?
Which account you are actually looking at, whatever it happens to be calling itself this week.
Every Roblox account carries a number that is issued once and never reassigned, and Roblox publishes it through its own user API. A request for user 1 came back with that ID, the username, the display name, the profile description, the creation date and a ban flag. The profile itself sits at roblox.com/users/<id>/profile, so the number is also the address.
The number is the thing to write down. A screenshot from last year can be matched to the account in front of you today, because the ID outlives every rename the owner pays for.
A username on its own will not do that. One change breaks the link, and Roblox charges for the change rather than forbidding it.
Username or display name: which one is durable?
The username, and the gap between the two is wider than most people assume. A permanent id under a changeable name is the same shape as a SteamID64.
Roblox's own help page on changing a username calls it "your unique account identifier", says each change costs Robux, and adds that a display name is "a customizable name that you can change for free". Roblox's announcement of the feature is blunter still: "Display Names are not unique".
So two accounts can wear the same name over their character's head, and a child reporting who they played with is usually reporting a display name. Ask for the profile link instead.
Old usernames do not disappear either. Roblox says previous usernames stay visible in settings, on the profile and through People search, and that the original creation date carries over to the new name.
What does a public Roblox profile show?
More than the profile page displays, because several of the fields have their own public endpoints behind them.

Two of those rows are worth reading twice. The friends endpoint answered for a public account with a list of user IDs and empty name fields, so each friend has to be resolved separately, and the badges endpoint refused outright with "Authentication token is missing".
The account a child is talking to is a number and a date before it is a name, and only one of those three will still be true next month.
How do you tell a real account from a throwaway?
By the creation date, before anything else on the page.
Roblox returns the exact timestamp an account was made, down to the second, and it is the one field nobody can manufacture. An avatar can be copied, a profile description can be rewritten, groups can be joined in an afternoon, and none of that moves the date.
So the test is short. An account presenting itself as a long-standing member of a community, created eleven days ago, has already answered the question you were asking.
Read the reverse case carefully too. A four-year-old account with an empty profile is not evidence of anything on its own, because a great many children have exactly that, and treating it as a finding is how you end up worrying about somebody's harmless classmate.
Dates beat names every time. Where a claimed history and a creation date disagree, the date is the one that was not chosen by the person making the claim.
What a Roblox lookup will not tell you
It will not tell you who the person is, and no honest tool will pretend otherwise.
Roblox publishes no email address, no phone number, no real name and no location for any account, and there is no route from an email address to a Roblox profile. Services advertising one are guessing the username from the local part of the address, which lands on a stranger who happens to hold that handle.
What you can establish is narrower and still useful: that an account exists, how old it is, whether Roblox has banned it, which groups it joined and which handle it reuses elsewhere.
Treat a handle match on another platform as a lead rather than an identification. A common word is registered by dozens of unrelated people across a decade, and the dates are what settle whether two accounts belong together.
If it is your own child, link the accounts first
Because it gives you the list directly, and no lookup tool can compete with that.
Roblox's parental controls let a linked parent account view, block and report a child's connections from the parent dashboard, and Roblox states that each connection appears as a username beside an avatar you can open. Linking is documented in its own help article.
The same dashboard holds content maturity, blocked and allowed games, screen time, spending limits and the communication settings that decide whether a child can chat at all. Roblox notes that under-nine accounts need parental consent before game chat works.
Start there before you start searching. Half the questions that send a parent to a lookup tool are answered by a settings page they already have the right to open, and the answer arrives with a username attached rather than a guess.
How do you check someone before a trade?
Read the creation date, then the ban flag, then whether the inventory is visible at all. The routine is the one used to check any stranger online.
The standard trade scam copies a known trader's avatar, display name and profile text onto a fresh account, and every visible detail matches except the date. Comparing the numeric user ID against the one you dealt with before settles it in a second, which is the reason to record the ID rather than the name.
Inventory visibility is its own answer. Roblox lets an owner hide it entirely through the inventory privacy setting, and the public endpoint reports which state an account is in.
A hidden inventory is a setting, not a verdict. Plenty of careful players hide theirs precisely because trade scammers shop from public inventories.
Is it legal to look up a Roblox account?
Reading a public profile is lawful. What you may do with what you read is the part with rules attached.
In the United States the Fair Credit Reporting Act governs consumer reports, and a lookup like this may never decide employment, tenancy, credit or insurance. In the European Union and the United Kingdom a username tied to a person is personal data, so processing it needs a lawful basis.
A child's account adds one more. The Children's Online Privacy Protection Rule binds the operator rather than you, but it is the reason Roblox routes a parent through account linking instead of handing an adult somebody else's chat history.
Checking your own child is not surveillance of a stranger. The parent dashboard exists because Roblox will disclose to a linked guardian what it will not disclose to anyone else. Use that route rather than trying to read another child's account from outside.
How do you report or block a Roblox account?
Through Roblox, and the detail that matters is what you attach to the report.
Roblox's guidance on reporting rule violations says plainly that if you report a user from their profile page, "our moderators won't be able to see what they did wrong". Report the specific chat message, private message or experience instead, from inside it, using the flag beside the username in the in-experience menu.
Blocking is separate and immediate, and Roblox documents it in its own article. A parent managing a linked account can block a connection from the dashboard without asking the child to do it.
Screenshot the conversation before you block, because blocking removes your own route back to it. Roblox keeps its record either way, but you will want yours if the matter goes beyond a report.
How do you check a Roblox handle across other sites?

That is the honest limit of it. We report whether the handle is taken on Roblox and where else the same string appears; we do not resolve a Roblox account to a person, because Roblox does not publish the fields that would allow it.

What is a Roblox user ID?
